Nice and sturdy board book with a spotted kitten, striped kitten, thirsty kitten, hungry kitten, short haired kitten, long haired kitten, clean kitten, messy kitten, playful kitten, sleepy kittens, big kitten and little kitten. Each page with something to touch and feel.

My 11 month old loves cats. He squeals whenever he sees one of our pet cats or a picture of a cat. I bought this book to keep in the diaper bag, it works as a wonderful distraction if my son is getting fussy. He loves looking at the “real” cat pictures and feeling the soft patches on them.

IT ARRIVED IN A TIMELY MANNER AND IN GOOD CONDITION. I LOVED IT. I WISHED IT HAD MORE KITTENS IN IT AND WAS LONGER.

I was looking to get my 9 month old a photo board book of cats. She was just beginning to get into the "touch and feel" elements of books so I gave this one a go. It's ok. It kind of annoys me that there are two conflicting ideas on each page- like "ready to play!" and "spotted kitten" on the same page. It just makes it hard to read to a tiny baby so they understand what the idea of that page is. I typically just try to ignore the "descriptor" text and just read her the "name" of the kitten but sometimes I forget and then I feel like she is going to get confused. The touch and feel parts are also extremely tiny, like one little stripe of fur. Many pages are really not even tactile enough to be considered "touch and feel," in my opinion. She also was in a major chewing phase when she got this, and managed to bite through the corner almost immediately.

Review

Praise for C. S. Pacat and the Captive Prince Trilogy“You will be completely enthralled and on edge.”—USA Today“Have you read Captive Prince? If you haven’t, what are you waiting for?”—HeroesandHeartbreakers.com“The cumulative effect of reading them back to back is mind blowing.”—Dear Author“Pacat’s powerful debut, a blend of intense erotica and political fantasy, is disturbing and intriguing in equal measure...The intricacy of the political entanglements gives depth to the novel’s erotic turmoil...Fans of Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel series will eat this up with a spoon.”—Publishers Weekly“Fans of Pacat’s internet-serial sensation will need no convincing of the merits of this series, but new readers should take note—this book lives up to every word of praise it has garnered. The lush setting, full of intricate historical detail, engaging decadence and ruthless scheming, will draw many, but it’s Pacat’s characters...who’ll surely keep readers captive. Their tenuous, fractious relationship is the heart and soul of this trilogy, and thankfully, readers will not have long to wait between installments in order to watch it unfold.”—RT Book Reviews

Wow. So how do you even explain this book without going on and on for twenty pages. This is the kind of book you need to read a few chapters and then get together to gush or seeth about with friends because there's just SO much!It plays out like a historical, Romanesque or Highland tale, except it's all fictional lands/kingdoms/societies.At first it's hard to stick with who's what - the author starts with a map of the region and a glossary - and it helps. I had to refer back to it a couple times in the beginning but then I had it.Then - it just gets good!Every turn of the page has another twist. At first you think there is nothing useful in Laurent, and then as the book progresses, you begin to realize that maybe there's something redeemable in there, but no matter what, or how hard you try, you aren't going to figure him out because the author does not want you to.Damen is... Delicious and I think he carries all of the hopes for all that is wrong to somehow turn out right. There is some kinky going on all over the place, mostly consensual, but there are slaves in this and societal norms that are also a product of this very creative and intriguing setting so there are a couple non-con scenes involving slaves. As a m/m romance, I wouldn't say that this was particularly romantic but it seems to have set the ground work for something more to happen in the rest of the series. There is some m/m action but not between our two main characters and honestly, I'm so glad there wasn't. I'm actually enjoying the mystery and the fact that these two didn't look at each other and immediately feel "something deep in their core" or "insane lust" or "insert any cliched insta-love phrase" here. But honestly, I don't know that they ever will be any m/m action between them, just a feeling. This story is building, drawing me in and I'm loving every minute of it!

While his father the king lays on his deathbed, Crown Prince Damen is seized by troops loyal to his half brother Kastor, who seizes the throne. Rather than simply kill Damen, Kastor packs him off to be a pleasure slave at the court of Vere, traditional enemies of Damen's people, with whom Kastor has made peace, for now. If anyone in Vere realizes who he is, Damen will be dead. Until then, he has the humiliation of being a slave to deal with.“Captive Prince” is primarily a tale of complex palace intrigue. Damen is thrust into a world where almost nobody is what they seem to be, and everyone seems to be scheming to find some advantage over everyone else. Damen's primary nemesis at court is his new owner, Laurent, a man who has more reason than most to kill Damen if he ever found out his true identity. This first book in a trilogy focuses on building the world that Damen inhabits and setting up the complex relationships of the main characters. In reality, not a lot happens in this book, but by the end you'll have enough to start guessing about what might really be going on, and there's definitely things put in motion by the end to signal more action in the second book. The story is not quite what I was expecting. It doesn't quite fit into the typical forced enslavement fantasy. However, the characters are quite interesting and figuring out the various motivations becomes as engrossing as a good mystery. Damen is the epitome of the “good and honorable” would-be king, while his new “owner” Prince Laurent seems at first to be the classic dissolute evil nemesis and his uncle the Regent a potential ally. Yet, by the end of this first book you may feel that none of the characters is quite what they at first seem to be.

I highly recommend reading both volumes of the "Captive Prince" - and wait anxiously for the third to be published in 2014 (per the author's blog). Fortunately, the end of Volume 2 is a great transition point even while setting some deep barbs to keep you checking back for Volume 3. I found that I reread both Volumes right after finishing Volume 2 for the first time and enjoyed the reread at least as much as the first pass because I was able to enjoy how the story unfolds from an entirely different perspective.I found the author's use of language pleasantly and uniquely different than the usual highly edited fodder from the big publishing houses. I hope Volume 3 is not radically different! As noted elsewhere the character's are enjoyably developed.Based on 20+ years in the military, I think the author shows an excellent understanding of prototype military command styles, how they are developed, how each binds their subordinate fighting forces together and to their will in the face of horror and death, and how successful senior commanders arrange layers of plans, operations, and resources across both time and space while hedging for uncertainty. Like this story perhaps, my own experiences have shown me the common and very similar human side of men who were once my enemies in battle. In truth, brotherhood comes in many forms. There is certainly more than one "Captive Prince" in this tale, each struggling for freedom... and coming to a new understanding regarding the complexity of just what "freedom" implies. For me the books were an easy, straight forward, enjoyable read without being simplistic or obvious. Unlike the "Game of Thrones," there are no jarring transitions across an inflated, gratuitous storyline. Instead, "Captive Prince" drives you on relentlessly towards the culmination of an epic conflict of wills and arms that you know is coming... though not in what form or when.Submission - Command; My Enemy - My Brother; Conflict - Reconciliation; Growth - Death: All these ideas are woven into Captive Prince - between men or even within the same person. In fiction, as in life, there can hardly be one without the otherSo read on, and enjoy.

#203,296 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I have read many handwriting analysis books over the years and couldn't wait for this book. This lady knows her stuff! Be prepared though to see some creepy handwriting and discover the people who wrote it. She works for people who investigate crimes and looks at samples from, well, very creepy people! Don't read it before bed! Once you have a grasp of "normal" handwriting with all the neurotic and abnormal traits, venture into this advanced course in the really bizarre. You will find yourself checking out friends, relatives (especially relatives!), and even strangers handwriting. It's addicting!

This book was very engaging. For anybody who wants to understand people and has a special interest in criminals, this is definitely the book for you. I fit that description myself :DI bought the book out of a general interest in handwriting analysis and what it can tell about a person. After previewing samples of several different books, I chose this one. Why? It was entertaining. It seemed like a good book to take me into the world of handwriting, and it was. It wasn't a strict instruction book that I needed to try to understand every piece of it; instead, I was easily and happily able to read through and get a general feel for the subject. I didn't necessarily pick up techniques that I can use. But I understand now different things to consider in handwriting, and I feel it will be easier for me to learn when I pick up a more serious book.

Michelle Dresbold uses storytelling instead of charts to walk the reader into useful principles of handwriting analysis. She directs your eye to the essential details, then allows you to try your hand. Her book doesn't scream "I know the secrets and you don't!" It politely says, "Take my hand, and I'll show you what is important." I couldn't put it down. Absolutely recommended!

This book values style over substance. It makes for an entertaining read, but at the end of the day, not a particularly satisfying one. The author takes an anecdote-based approach to illustrating how different handwriting behaviours indicate certain personality characteristics. These anecdotes are all well told, and keep the book from becoming too dry. However, the downside is that you'll ultimately learn very little about graphology. I really would have liked to have seen more of an effort to prove the science behind it all.The formula is generally that you are given a writing behaviour (shown through good illustrations), provided with a rule for what the behabiour indicates, and then given an extreme example that demonstrates the point. But there is little effort to explain why the rules might make sense (many are extremely counter-intuitive, if not outright absurd), and no empirical evidence is cited to back them up. This becomes especially frustrating when, later in the book, the author ignores rules she had earlier set out with certainty. When a serial killer wrote a pointy "t", and dipped their "d" below the line, they were an agressive rule breaker with an affection for knives; but then when an average woman (writing a letter to the author) exhibited the same patterns, it meant that she was narrow-minded, and needed to move on. Her application and interpretation of the rules sometimes felt far too selective and convenient. As a closing note, I'd warn readers (males especially) that the author writes the book with a particular audience in mind: women looking to screen potential mates for violent behaviours. The most substantive section of the book is dedicated to this topic. From what I can tell, that is the target audience of the author's newspaper column, which figures prominantly in the book. It didn't ruin the book for me, as a 23 year old male, but it was annoying at times.

I bought this book because of the credentials and acumen behind the author - which are as high as credentials can get in the field of graphology and/or handwriting analysis. Her book is not marketed as a complete course - nor should anyone expect that. However, she does cover a lot of basis and any principles you do learn are SOLID and a result of many experts, (teachers) in her educational profile and not just theory of one or two self proclaimed experts (who are best avoided.)I say this because if you really want to enter the world of graphology and/or handwriting analysis, you need authors who have studied as a team player and from good sources to learn the right way. It is very hard to be any good if you learned from theories that were never streamlined or just interpretations concocted by an author. Unfortunately, some authors proclaim they have "the only book you will ever need," and this is so not true. This is a science and an on-going education. So, whether you are moderately interested in graphology and/or handwriting analysis, or want to be a master someday - this is a great book to have in your collection. When this author makes statements she usually explains "why" she came to that conclusion, which also helps you learn. So, she teaches horizontally, not vertically. Meaning the author speaks to you and not at you. She is also a great writer and keeps your attention throughout the entire book and not just parts. The amount of time she spent on each story really floored me. The author made sure she knew what she was talking about when it came to all the high profile cases and material, and she has more stats and real images pertaining to them, than I have seen in my own studies and writing. I attribute that to the fact her education is as "inside" as it can get. By that I mean her education in part by the government. Obviously they can use real evidence when teaching and have access to some evidentary items or theories not always available to the general public, (moi).Trying not to be a spoiler, she proved me wrong in my own book - regarding the Ramsey note - I felt the writer was foreign because the characters seemed written from right to left. It never occurred to me a person could just switch to their non-dominate hand and write away. Again, she had access to a lot more information than I ever did, and every time I was sure she was wrong - as I read on, she was correct and full of documentation to support her final conclusion on every item.If you want a real page turner where you also learn as you go - her book is a great one ! Just remember one tendency may be cancelled out by another tendency, most evaluations should be done as a "whole" and with several samples, so be very well educated before you start figuring someone is Satan incarnate or a real Mother Theresa.

William Henry Hudson is an interesting case in that he belongs to two literatures, that of Great Britain and that of Argentina, where he is sometimes referred to as Guillermo Enrique Hudson. All of his writings are in English, yet he has secured for himself a spot in the Argentinean canon. This is nothing short of a miracle. He may not be as highly regarded in Great Britain, and this makes sense when one considers the competition at the time he was producing his works. _Far Away and Long Ago_ represents my first experience of Hudson's work. This book is revered by many Argentineans, and I now count myself as one of them._Far Away and Long Ago_ covers Hudson's life from the first impressions he recalls up to his fifteenth birthday, so we're roughly speaking of the years 1844 to 1859. This is the time of Juan Manuel de Rosas, one of the many turbulent epochs Argentina has experienced. Now, many books have been written about this period, and Argentina's so-called national novel, José Mármol's _Amalia_ (1851) depicts life during those years. What makes _Far Away and Long Ago_ interesting is that this is the perspective of a foreigner. Yes, Hudson was actually born in Argentina, but as he says in this memoir he always referred to England as "home" (something his brother found funny), and he moved there when he was in his early thirties. A reading of _Far Away and Long Ago_ will reveal an interesting, hybrid observer, one that is neither Argentinean nor British, but a combination of both. As an American/Argentinean hybrid, I could relate to his situation (the transnational condition), and I understand it perfectly. One belongs neither here nor there, or one belongs in both places, but in both places one's perspective remains that of an outsider. This memoir is characterized by a nostalgic outlook. To Hudson, boyhood was paradise, and this sense of bliss was heightened by the fact that he spent it in a relatively wild place, a sort of Garden of Eden. It was inevitable that he should develop an interest in nature that often borders on pantheism. The most beautiful passages in _Far Away and Long Ago_ are those in which Hudson describes his close relationship with Nature. This is expected of an author who wrote books titled _Argentine Ornithology_ (1888), _The Naturalist in La Plata_ (1892), and the two-volume _Birds of La Plata_ (1920). In fact, Hudson was so in love with the natural world that in time he ceased to think about the possibility of an afterlife. He devotes quite a few pages of his memoir, by the way, to his struggle with religious concepts, and while I do not agree with his views I found the development fascinating to read.Hudson's descriptions are vivid and unforgettable. Not many people seem to read him today, and he may be read more in translation by Argentineans than in the English-speaking world, but he was definitely a master of the craft of prose. John Galsworthy said of him: "For all living authors--now that Tolstoi has gone--I could least dispense with W. H. Hudson." Hemingway was another admirer, particularly of _The Purple Land_ (1885; Hudson's first and probably most famous book) and of _Far Away and Long Ago_. Like Hemingway, Hudson has a keen eye not only for landscape, but also for detail. His descriptions of the local flora and fauna (especially of birds) are meticulous, minute. The Pampas, that dry, flat region of Argentina (the Argentinean Texas, as I call it), will come alive as you read this book. _Far Away and Long Ago_ is also full of memorable characters, such as the beggar known as "The Hermit," Mr. Trigg the schoolmaster, Margarita the nursery maid, Anjelita [sic, should be Angelita], Don Gregorio Gandara [probably Gándara], Don Evaristo Peñalva, Father O'Keefe, and of course, Hudson's family (I was quite moved by his portrayal of his relationship with his mother), and the many gauchos who philosophized with the young naturalist the way Viejo Vizcacha philosophizes in Argentina's national epic, José Hernández's _Martín Fierro_ and its sequel (1872, 1879).Memorable scenes abound. Hudson relates, for instance, the shock he experienced upon witnessing for the first time the slaughter of cattle, an impression of horror that--quite understandably--never left him. There are also descriptions of the famous fights between gauchos, the ones you may have read about in some pages by Borges. One of my favorite chapters was the one that deals with his first visit to Buenos Aires, the Capital. Even back then, Buenos Aires was quite perplexing, even overwhelming. Hudson paints an interesting portrait of Juan Manuel de Rosas too, and he relates the effects that civil war had on his family. Rosas is a figure that still causes great division among Argentineans. To give an example, in the neighborhood of Villa Urquiza, a subway station was given the name Juan Manuel de Rosas, and this caused quite an uproar: Justo José de Urquiza was Rosas' enemy, the one who defeated him. Hudson does not come to a conclusion regarding Rosas, but he does present several perspectives on this contradictory figure.I enjoyed _Far Away and Long Ago_ (or _Allá lejos y hace tiempo_, as it is known in Argentina) so much that I will continue to read Hudson. I'm specially interested in his novels, of which at least two are regarded as masterpieces: _The Purple Land_, and _Green Mansions_ (1904). Incidentally, his second novel, _A Crystal Age_ (1887), is an early example of dystopian fiction. All of these, and many more of Hudson's books, are now available for free._Far Away and Long Ago_ has been adapted to film at least twice, both times in Argentina. I've seen the 1978 version, directed by Manuel Antin (who also directed _Juan Manuel de Rosas_, and adaptations of Cortázar's short story "Circe" and Güiraldes' gaucho novel _Don Segundo Sombra_). I remember enjoying the film; how faithful it is to the text, I cannot say, as it's been a while since I saw it. If I ever watch it again, I'll come back and add a comment here. Thanks for reading, and enjoy the book!

This is one of the most interesting books I have read in my long lifetime. It is difficult to imagine more contrasting environments for a boy to be raised in than the Pampas of Argentina and any part of England, and this is the autobiography of an English boy whose family was transplanted to long ago, rural Argentina. This was then an an era when the Argentine flora, fauna, weather and people contrasted sharply with most people's idea of a traditional English way of life.I particularly enjoyed the author's descriptions of Argentine birdlife and of the now vanished Pampas as they then existed. The author's upbringing of total freedom in rural Argentina is in stark contrast to today's totally programed and structured American childhood.

I read about Hudson’s work in a literary piece about ‘great forgotten literature.’ Far Away and Long Ago was the favored of the books. It is his biography of his early years on the pampas south of Buenos Aires. The early and late nineteenth century were years of great isolation in this part of the world. Many Europeans settled in Argentina, which was then one of the two or three richest countries in the world. But those on the pampas were rich, with vast estancias; they survived with smaller, often poor estancias, some times with bizarre, lonely individual surviving through simply iron will; then, the gauchos, with only a bedroll and what would be carried on horseback. The violence and beauty of the landscape is always there, too.Hudson was driven by his interest in birds and, secondly, in other animals and wildlife. His descriptions of birds in their environment, of snakes under the house, of fishermen in Buenos Aires, of violent fights between gauchos: it is all part of an amazing youth. He saw more by ten or twelve years of age than many of us see in an entire life time. I will read on in his story of when of his return to and adult life in England.

This is almost an adventure book, about a boy who was free to do what he loved, wander the large untamed area around his home in Argentina, alone or with a pony, discovering secrets of the birds and other creatures of those vast grasslands. Also, I discovered here that it was Hudson who had written "Green Mansions", a book I read in my grandfather's library when I was young enough to find it strange and disturbing (man's inhumanity). I would recommend this as a very interesting and rather unusual read.

Very well-written memoir from a childhood immigrant to Argentina. A boy describes life in 1840-50 on the Pampas with his family of English middleclass. The surroundings were perfect for exploring on foot and horseback. Lots of wildlife were easily observed and the boy became a naturalist. Gauchos herded cattle and had a wild adventurous culture, and nature was generally benign but sometimes destructive. Much later in life Hudson wrote Green Mansions, which led to a movie of the same name. (the movie had that name; I'm not sure about the book.)

Where the tall Pampas grass grows, you are taken on a voyage seen through the eyes of a young boy growing up in the wild Argentine plain. Images abound, and characters emerge thrilling the reader and inviting you in to explore this rich environment.I especially liked the concept of the rich Spanish cattle baron after 100 years of living in the pampas how there were no longer any vegetable gardens and nice aromatic blossoms, as the livestock of all kinds subsequently destroyed all of the frivolities of life. This book is references in Hemmingway's "Garden of Eden".. Thanks for the heads-up Hem!

NOT VERY HELPFUL

Very pleased with information in this book ------ information may help your dog live a longer and healthier life.

This book opened my eyes big time! I recomend it for anyone who owns pets or has kids. It can be a bit technical at times - I had to read some sections twice to really get it, but well worth the effort. I strongly recomend you read this and follow or start with "The nature of animal healing."This book will also get you to questions vaccines used in humans...autism for your young daughter anyone??Read it but don't let the quest for knowledge on this subject stop at this book!

Good to know facts

I think every person that has a dog or cat should read this book. People really need to be educated on what they are putting into their animal companions. Vaccinations aren't bad but we do over vaccinated and also give too many vaccinations at the same time. The book has a lot of good facts that most people do not know and also information for further reading. Its you who has to take care of your animal companions welfare. Yes majority of vets love animals otherwise they would not be in the business. The key word is business they get more money when an animal is vaccination frequently. Vaccinations should be kept to a minimum and if a animal is getting more then one vaccination it should only be 2 at one time and then wait awhile for the others (least 6 weeks) There are many people who have started to go vaccination free and their dogs are perfectly fine and healthy. The book also shows that there is no evidence that frequent/yearly vaccination keeps an animal healthy.

It is about time someone brings to light the dangers of over- vaccination! This book explores the many dangerous side effects of vaccination, the obscurity of diseases such as Coronavirus, the inadequacies in vaccines such as Leptospirosis, and the lack of science behind annual rabies mandates. The text given is thourough, and thought provoking! Many vaccines are mandated based on fear, and not science. It is refreshing to see an author admit the inadequacies of vaccinations and the laws surrounding them. Vaccines can become dangerous, and cannot be considered harmless, as demostrated in this book. This book provides a solid outline of data that rubs against the grain! A great mind-opener! It is great for those questioning current vaccination standards, yet will easily rub wrong with those who strongly advoate vaccine usage. The main down-fall to the book is that it focuses on the negative, and gives little alternative beyond not vaccinating. I would use this book as a resource for the negatives of vaccination, yet would do further research to determine if or how you will choose to vaccinate. The book would serve well coupled with Don Hamiltons book Homeopathy for Cats and Dogs: Small doses for small animals, which also gives some interesting insight into vaccinations, and more alternative on how to administer them, if at all.

This is an excellent reference book with very in-depth information. I was amazed and impressed with how factual and unbiased this book is. Most books are lobbying for or against an idea, especially on the controversial issue of health, but Catherine presents the facts as she has found them and lets the reader decide for themselves how to act on them.

I think this is great education regarding our pets. Vaccines are a source of income for vets & not all are necessary as frequently as given. Just make educated choices!
