What I find interesting though is that humans seem to have an innate capability to do this, perhaps schizophrenia is when this innate ability is in the far end of the spectrum, but normally it is useful and serves an evolutionary advantage!

Todd Herman talks through how to use the power of your creative imagination so you can, within minutes, start to shape a narrative about you that serves you.As an athlete I've unknowningly used Alter Egos for years to perform on the hockey field. But by consciously going through Todd's Alter Ego process I've been able to launch a successful podcast, start a coaching practice and push myself outside my comfort zone. This has helped me achieve goals that I had forever though were just "good ideas".I'd highly encourage you to read this book and use Todd's principles to pull out the YOU whose capable of greatness.. whatever your Field of Play.

Full disclosure: I not only got an early copy, I helped Todd edit the book and even pushed him to actually finish it (like all first time authors, he was anxiopus about it).I don't have much to add to the book in terms of telling you whats in it, the other reviews cover that well. I just want to tell you that this is the first book of its type that has a truly original idea I've read in a LONG LONG time.Don't get me wrong--Todd did not invent the idea of alter egos, obviously. From Clark Kent back to the Muses, the ideas in the book are universal and timeless.But that's what makes this book so good, is that Todd is the first to really identify and explain them. Its like he's the guy teaching fish that they live in water.This book will, at a minimum, be a great read for you. But what most people will get from it will be a life-changing shift of perspective that creates some incredible breakthroughs (it did for me).

Full disclosure. I've been a fan and student of Todd Herman's 90 Day Year program for over a year now. His new book is so inspiring. Trust me, it's worth the read if you are ready to up your A game. Your Alter Ego isn't a fraud. It's YOU helping YOU perform at your best. It's you getting out of your own way. I know that one reason I resonate so strongly with Todd's take about alter egos is how much it correlates to my own views about our intuition, and why for too many, we lose touch with the importance our intuition plays in our hearts and minds, as well as our confidence and ability to not only believe we can do great things, but actually accomplish great things.

I have felt "different" my whole life and have frequently described myself as an alien. I had heard of Asperger's before, but every description of it I heard or read was brief and focused on only a few traits of the condition and cases that were moderate to severe. I was totally unaware of the long list of more subtle traits such as sensory sensitivity, stimming, and that not everyone with AS is totally blind to non-verbal social cues. There is remarkable variability among those with AS, and every individual trait exists on a spectrum or may be expressed in different ways, and some traits may not be present at all. Tony Attwood's book went into far more detail than anything I found online and was based more on his 40 years of experience actually working with and getting to know and understand Aspies than the few bullet points of the DSM. I found his book to be incredibly insightful and an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to understand the condition. I repeatedly saw myself in his descriptions and was shocked and excited to sometimes even see specific words or phrases I had used myself (having trouble with "the system" for example).The Complete Guide to AS helped me immensely in understanding myself, why I am so different, and how I can better succeed in life and have positive relationships. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about the condition and cannot thank Dr. Attwood enough for producing such a book an sharing his expertise. Thank you!

I've read a lot of books since our diagnosis for our son, and this one did the best job. He can write for a parent to understand the syndrome, and most importantly to understand how your kid THINKS. Because they don't think like you do. That doesn't make them bad, or wrong, just different enough to need a translator. If your kid is lucky you'll stumble upon this book and learn about how your kid sees the world: what they notice, what they don't, what makes sense to them, and what doesn't.It's a guidebook for those who love Aspies and want to help navigate them through life without shaming them, or making them feel bad about how they were born. My kid is much happier with a family who understands him and can help him make connections and who can intelligently explain how he's different to other people who haven't read this book. God bless Tony Attwood.I buy this again and again to give away. It's that important.

I don't feel Theory of Mind adequately or fairly describes what is really going on with Aspergers. Certainly there are social difficulties, but to say that people with Aspergers, especially adults, don't understand that other people have minds and emotions is just untrue, and that's what the most rigid proponents of Theory of Mind are still trying to assert. Proponents of Theory of Mind may even assert the person with Aspergers lacks emotions or caring. While I don't feel this author is going to these extremes, enough of the proponents of Theory of Mind have done so in a way that is deeply flawed and discriminatory against people with Aspergers. Including ToM in this book dilutes what is otherwise a very compassionate tone.Learning how to improve social abilities can only be possible for people who do, in fact, realize that they and other people have varied thoughts and emotions. What people with Aspergers have trouble with is intuiting social communication, but that can happen to anyone in specific situations - such as traveling to a very different culture. I would have felt this book was much stronger if the author took the time to acknowledge there is debate around this issue in the community.

It is wonderful to know that I am not mad. That I am just uncoordinated and not trying to hurt myself. That my escape into imagination doesn't mean that I am insane.This book explained all the things I just couldn't understand about who I am. It also explained why other people respond to me the way they do. My mother didn't reject me, she thought it was her fault I was different. And now I understand that I don't have to be afraid all the time.There is lots more to read and take on board. I wish my parents had known about this book when I was young. Thank you Tony Attwood for writing this book.

I read this book in two days flat. It's a full sized textbook type of book (and anyone who has gone to college knows that textbooks can sell for up to and over $100 - this has as much info as a textbook IMO but at under $20 is just an absolute steal) but I couldn't put it down. This truly should be required reading for anyone with Asperger's, anyone with a familyl member with Asperger's, anyone who ever thinks they might ever know someone who might have Asperger's, and certainly every single psychologist and teacher, social worker and child care provider should take the time to read. I grew up reading comics, and as I entered into a writing career of my own I secretly held on to a dream that I might one day write for some of my favorite titles. I haven't achieved that particular goal (yet), but as I progress in my writing career I find that the story-building techniques in this book are useful no matter what I'm writing. Much of my work involves non-linear subplots and multiple characters and POVs, and there is no industry that understands that sort of story plotting better than the comics industry!I have both a physical copy and a digital copy of this book. I was so impressed, I bought the entire series, and have found even the volumes on artwork to be interesting and insightful. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to study and improve upon writing technique for serialized work. Absolutely a must-have for any writer's resource library.

Students of creative arts (cartooning, painting, woodcarving, writing, whatever) want two things out of a good textbook: Instruction on how to do the craft and examples of just what the completed craft is supposed to look like. In a book about writing for comics, for example, it's just as important to see what a finished script looks like as it is to read about how it's done. (In fact, for many students, that's all they want: Just show me what the thing is supposed to look like and I'll figure out the rest.)Denny O'Neil (I've never met the man, but I've been reading his work for so long, I feel that I've achieved nickname basis) has produced a rich textbook meeting both of those qualifications.For those who are more nuts-and-bolts-oriented (and I admit I'm in that group), O'Neil gets to the juicy stuff early in the book with his discussion of the differences between, and pros and cons of, the full-script and plot-first techniques. Denny O'Neil gave us back Batman after those crazy camp years. Batman the way he is supposed to be... The Dark Knight!! If there is ANYONE to learn how to write a comic from it is this man. He is a legend in the comics industry for his style and this is how he did it. If I can ever get my story-line straight in head this book has given me the correct and most viable way to put it together on paper so that it will be a saleable manuscript.

I'm currently in the process of converting a story into a graphic novel and have found this book both informative and inspirational. Not a "one stop shop" for the comic book industry, but definitely one I'll open again and again.

The DC Comics Guides are a great series of books by LEGENDS in the comics field. I highly recommend them for students, teachers, and folks interested in breaking into comics.
