After reading everything on SIBO I can find... this is the simplest, calmest overview I've seen. SIBO eating recommendations are all over the map. I wish I had had this when I was starting out. Instead of buying SCD and Low-FODMAP cookbooks and being frustrated by how inapplicable they were. I ordered this because I really like the author's website and posted recipes. Much less restrictive than Bi Phasic diet or SIBO specific food guide and a better fit for how I'm able to eat now. Those are both available on line and are decent places to start if you really can't tolerate anything. 4 stars because I haven't cooked anything out of it yet.

Actually made me feel worse! I'd done a bone broth fast for a few days prior to starting this diet plan, and that got me through the initial SIBO die-off. At the end of this 4 week plan (I did 5 weeks by using the Calming Menu for a week at the beginning), many foods that I could eat before starting this plan now give me problems and make me sick and bloated, so my diet has become very restricted after following this diet plan, and my symptoms are worse. Also, the grocery lists have you buying expensive items for the week that you don't even use in the suggested recipe plan, so that was wasted money. A few of the recipes are just plain awful! And finally, many of the recipes are heavy on cumin for seasoning (must be the author's favorite) and otherwise quite disappointing. Sometimes good old salt works fine. Overall, this plan rushes you through and does not heal SiBO, and may even aggravate your symptoms.

I love the simplicity of this book. The meal plans are not overwhelming and I found the addition of the shopping lists to be extremely helpful. The recipes are inspiring and many are so simple to make while still providing delicious tasting food. The Chocolate-pecan butter is to die for (as is the Chocolate Pots de Creme!) when you are looking for that chocolate hit. It's important to remember that you may go through die-off when first starting any healing diet. If so, go slow and be gentle with yourself as it will soon pass.

This diet plan incorporates aspects of education, recipes and easy to understand information all in one. As a nutritionist working with SIBO patients, this book is a huge step forward in the treatment of SIBO in a very user friendly format! The meal plan is well laid out with tips and tricks for navigating meal preparation and other events that may arise during a patient's journey with SIBO. I can't wait to utilize this with patient's moving forward!

This book is awesome for anyone with SIBO! I highly recommend the electronic version, as you can move between the menu and recipes easily. This really helped me get through the first 4 weeks, and beyond!

Some outstanding recipes.But I am perplexed that she uses ingredients that are NOT allowed on SCD, since the SIBO Specific Diet is based on both low FODMAP and SCD. She uses arrowroot and sweet potatoes, which are considered too starchy on SCD.

Ingredients are not common to north american diet. Some are hard to come by. The recipes tend to be high in fat with a lot of frying. Recipes were complicated and time consuming.

Haven’t read the whole book yet, but what I have read has confirmed what my doctor has diagnosed. More books should be written about it.

Overall, this is a beautiful calendar, with gorgeous artwork throughout. It's printed on very nice, thick paper, and the cover is very solid and secure. However, I'm deducting one star for the binding. While the binding isn't really a bad thing, it's something that I personally do not like. I missed the description (and it is not depicted in the photographs of the item) that it is a "concealed" spiral binding. I love spiral bound calendars for my desk because I flip them around so that it's only as wide as a closed book (you would only see the right-hand-side of the double-page spread when you're looking at it on my desk). That gives it a smaller footprint so that it takes up less space on my desk. However, with the concealed spiral, you can't fold it over. It lays flat and open, which is nice, but you can't fold it completely over without tearing off or severely damaging the cover of the spiral binding. If you close it properly and set it on a bookcase, it looks like the end of a book, no spiral binding visible. It's just a preference, but I probably would not have purchased this particular calendar if I had realized I couldn't fold it over to reduce the footprint on my desk. If you don't care about folding it in half, you will probably LOVE this calendar. I'm not unhappy with the purchase, just with the space it's going to take up this year. :)

The calendar is absolutely beautiful, beautiful art. I like that every page has a different art image, the pockets in the front and back are very useful to store loose papers or receipts. There is plenty of space in the back for notes, 3 pages that can be used front and back. I only give it 4 starts because I can’t completely fold it, it can only open flat. I would recommend this product.

I keep a daily/monthly calendar. I need to write in it. This calendar is soooo pretty! I love looking at it. I love the way the days and months are laid out in this one too! It has a hardcover book style too it so it's really nice looking. I can't wait to get next years calendar!

This is my favorite planner of all time! The left side has a gorgeous full size image (look for the tiny easter eggs hidden throughout!) and the right Monday through Friday displayed along with the month and date. If you like to write with gel/ink pens this might not be the agenda for you, but other than that it is absolutely perfect! This would make a lovely gift for anyone on your list.

Absolutely beautiful artwork that can be reused later as decorations in frames etc. Well organized day blocks with plenty of room to write appointments and information. The full month calendars in the beginning are also helpful. Nice spiral bound edge that is easy to lay open flat on a desk.

When the Enterprise rescues a ship caught in the gravitational pull of a gas giant, they soon discover that the pursuing fleet was from this planet they set out to make contact with--and they wanted the prey to be obliterated--the intended victim seems quite harmless and friendly; until Spock makes contact with it and before you know it nobody aboard the ship is certain that anything they think or do is of their own free will anymore--including Spock!That alone seems like quite an intriguing plot; however it thickens as you are made to sympathize with Berlis, (the "troubled mind") who may not even realize the strength of his will over others, but whose fight for survival leaves him little choice but to take some of the actions he does--and many times the reader is led to the conclusion that he really doesn't know just how extensive his influence is--and many of the consequences are completely unintended. Or are they? Read and find out. I enjoyed it. The only reason for not giving it 5 was one or two places where I thought the descriptions got too wordy--but that was not often--a solid 4 star enjoyable read.

I picked up "Troublesome Minds" because I had to read "the deaf Trek book" - I didn't really know anything about it beyond the deaf characters and the use of sign language. As noted in the acknowledgments, Dave Galanter worked at Gallaudet, and of course this aspect of the book is beautifully done; the nuances of different methods of communication are well-captured.But it's also an outstanding book from the perspective of the main story, for the deaf aspects are just one layer of it. The real story is about power struggle, and it's captivating in ways I didn't expect. It's the first TOS novel I've read in a while (I tend to prefer DS9) and it was very well done, with the characters' mannerisms and voices all coming through perfectly.There's a bold move made with Spock's nature here, and it is brilliantly executed, fully believable. Wonderful book.

Troublesome Minds is classic Star Trek at its best. Dave Galanter has an excellent grasp of the characters as he nails each one to perfection. The story is nicely paced. This story takes place during the last year of the 5 year mission. Enterprise and crew become involved with a conflict between two planets after rescuing a individual from sure death. This individual Berlis has a mind so powerful he can control the entire population of his planet which makes his planet a danger to the other planet. As war plans are prepared by both planets Enterprise attempts to prevent all out war. What I enjoyed was the use of sign language by the people of Berlis planet. Spock uses his telepathic ability with the help of female named Meshu to stop Berlis from controling his planet. During the process and during the entire story Spocks relationship with Berlis and Meshu cause him to question his "emotions" and how they affect him and what he should do about them. If you are a fan of Star Trek and of the original series you will enjoy this book.

This book has one of the most intriguing background concepts of any novel I've ever read: Kirk and company meet an alien species that is telepathic, and that very occasionally, (and of course, "now" is one of those occasions) produces an individual who has such a powerful telepathic mind that he (or she) is absolutely irresistable; no one who makes mental contact with him or her can refuse the individual anything. Yet the individual is not consciously, intentionally controlling people's minds, and people are not aware that they are being controlled; it feels to both sides as if the individual simply had a very high charisma.What do you do with such an individual? This is, essentially, the concept that this book is built around, and it's a fascinating one. The execution is excellent, if not as spectacular as the concept itself. The characters are handled well, the plot moves smoothly, and there is excellent pacing. Overall, I consider this book a must for any Star Trek fan, and a near-must for anyone who is not actively hostile to Star Trek.

This is a very good story. I love the stories that involve Mr. Spock. He has a big part in this. I like the way Mr. Galanter uses Mr. Spock's talents. I really don't have anything critical to say about this story. I enjoyed the whole thing. I can't wait for his next book.

I would have loved to have seen this novel as an episode of the show! The Enterprise crew is forced with a horrifying conundrum - kill an innocent person who is genetically endowed with astonishing telepathic abilities in order to save millions from being unwittingly enslaved by him. Spock's usual strengths turn out to be an extreme vulnerability in this situation, which was a very interesting twist to the story. Highly recommended!

I'm a big Star Trek fan, and this was actually the first Star Trek novel it occurred to me to purchase for my Kindle. The characters were true to form, and the story line kept me reading right on through. It was hard to put down. The only downside to these ST novels is the pricing, as they are not overly long, but a bit pricey. This isn't surprising considering the overall copyright value of the ST "brand". Oh well, as far as this particular novel is concerned, it was definitely worth it.

The kind of Trek story I've always loved... Kirk, Spock and McCoy challenged on every level... Difficult situations with difficult choices and a new and dare I say, "fascinating" new and original race of beings to contend with.

My daughter needed a book to read for school and she picked this one out as it sounded interesting. I actually found myself reading it as well. I thought it was a very well written book and it shows just how teenagers and parents are today without sugar coating anyting, and how their decisions affect other people. I think it's a good book to read with your daughter or son because it opens up a conversation that can be very meaningful between a parent and a child, especially in this day and age. I would definitely recommend this book for any person 13 and up.

I loved this book for a number of reasons, the main one being that, being a young person of around this age, I could relate so well to the book that I could basically pin certain characters as people that I know.This book really captures the essence of the judgement placed upon girls (and boys) in high school, how quickly your view on someone can change because of something silly like a list, something so simple, not at all dignified or of great importance. I guess simplicity is what counts in books for teenagers like me who are a little slow on the intake.The characters were very believable, not going to such an extent as a cliché of stereotypical high school students with the one queen bee and the others just roaming around aimlessly with their unimportant cliques, I mean, there was Margo obviously who was the top girl, but she wasn't a slave driver or anything. She genuinely appreciated her friends and didn't treat everyone like they were less than her which was a nice change of pace.I like that the author touched on inner beauty. And I don't mean the little speech they give you in school or girl scouts or whatever about being beautiful no matter what anyone says, but more the opposite, telling a story of a girl who is pretty on the outside but oh so ugly on the inside, and her little realization of what she does to people. Having the pretty girl be the vulnerable one made things interesting.I was left at the end with so many questions about everyone, Danielle especially, I really wish they were answered or that the author writes a sequel, because this is a great book and that's the only reason I'd leave out a star.A great read for 13-15 year olds. Those older may not enjoy it as much, but give it a try if you're looking for a quick, fun read.

In high school there are the "hot" girls and the "not-so-hot" girls, but no one writes it down on paper. It is not something out in the open for everyone to see. In Siobhan Vivian's The List, those girls are labeled ugliest and hottest girl for each class, and the label will change them forever.Every year the List comes out. There is an ugliest girl and a hottest girl in each grade. No one knows who makes the lists or how the official (stolen) school seal that marks the official list gets passed down from year to year, but they accept the list as a part of their high school lives. This year is no different from previous years for most people, but it is a life-changer for the 8 girls on the list. One has been on the list all 4 years of her high school career... as the ugliest girl in her grade. One only makes the list after her anorexia slims her down. One embraces her Ugly status by writing UGLY across her forehead and refusing to shower for the whole week leading up to the Homecoming game.But one thing is for certain: the list affects every single girl it names. And while you might think it would help the lives of the Hottest girls, you would be miserably wrong. Being named Hottest only makes your friends jealous and guys think they have a right to hit on you or think you are a trophy to be won. Being on the list tests every relationship you have ever had, your values, and worst of all, what you think of yourself. The List has changed these girls... but you won't believe how.This was a deceptively awesome book, I must say. I assumed it would be rife with cliches and stereotypes and full of pink plush morals and "typical", but it really wasn't. Instead, it surprised me. Time and time again, what happened to these girls REALLY surprised me. I thought I knew what was going to happen to the Ugly girls vs. the Hot girls, but I found myself flipping the pages time and time again with that "What the heck?!" shocked look on my face. It was a really refreshing read! But at the same time, it was a frighteningly accurate reveal into the world of high school culture. We, as adults, sit on the outside of the true happenings of our schools, and although we have lived through it, we have also outgrown it, making our opinions jaded. I mean, can you honestly remember what it felt like to live through high school? I can honestly say I have tried somewhat (un)successfully to block it from my mind, but every now and then I see something going on where I teach and all those memories come rushing back.This would be an excellent book for any high school aged girl through adult trying to understand the lives and roles of teenagers these days. And to try and pretend judgment and criticism are not a part of adolescence is simply ridiculous. Sometimes we, as adults, just need to immerse ourselves in their world, even through a story like this one, to see the truth of what they live through every day. It might make you a little more sympathetic as you give them detention or scold them for not finishing their work. We see the world through our adult eyes, but we forget that as teenagers, we didn't even know who we were at that point. Vivian did a great job with this story explaining the lives of teenagers and I am sure all adolescents would find at least one character to relate to. Even if they don't want to admit it!

Every year somebody makes a list ranking females from ugly to pretty in every grade level in high school. Nobody knows who creates the list until the end. Some of them do extreme things to prove otherwise of what they see themselves as. I felt like sometimes it repeats itself but overall I liked due to being able to relate. I know I was judged in school but it did not bothering since nobody knew the true me like I do. It's a good book to read in middle school to prepare them for what could happen and why we should not judge people.

Not a bad book, definitely got interesting at some parts and funny at others. Fairly quick read and kept my attention. Most definitely gets into details on the uglier sides of high school from eating disorders to judging others and the consequences of decisions. There were some rough parts including some flow of the story that I thought were a little weird or didn't make sense. I think the biggest problem I had was the ending. It ended alright but I expected more about what happens after they find out who made the list and what happened to the other girls who had some major problems and those who became more popular after the list was published. It kind of just cut off, but not in the good cliff-hanger way.

This book is a highly accessible narrative of critical race theory. I learned a lot.

Good, short read on CRT. This books serves as a good overview of CRT and how it applies to various races. It also does a good job canvassing some of the history of CRT. While this development may be a bit scant, I am unaware if this is because the lack of breadth and depth of the field or if that is a peripheral concern of the book.

A great read for the critical thinker.

We are using this book in an important class in my Social Work School. I'm reviewing it here to counteract the uninformed and childish attacks on it in the previous review. Its absurd to judge a book as a failure or useless to the reader on the basis of such bizarre categories as "marxist" or too focused on issues of race. Its a book about race in the US--of course its going to have information, perhaps uncomfortable information for some readers, about racism, racial theory, and history of the US. The willful ignorance of the average angry Trump Voter, the refusal to acknowledge the perspectives of POC or academics and theoreticians of race is not a very useful stance to take on reading anything. Let alone reading a book about race.

Had to purchase for a class. Must have. Very informative.
