About the Author

Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983) was born in Haarlem, The Netherlands. Her family owned a watch repair shop, which housed the "hiding place" where many Jewish people and Resistance workers hid for their lives. After her arrest and release from the Ravensbrück concentration camp due to a clerical error, Corrie was invited to share her experiences in more than sixty countries. The Hiding Place was first released in 1971.Elizabeth and John Sherrill have co-authored numerous bestsellers--classics such as The Hiding Place, The Cross and the Switchblade, and God's Smuggler--and have traveled the world researching and writing articles and books. Formerly senior editors and now roving editors for Guideposts magazine, John and Elizabeth co-founded Chosen Books, along with Leonard and Catherine Marshall LeSourd. great novel, wonderful, true life story

I was absolutely absorbed by this book. I looked forward to every time I picked it up to read. I must start by saying that I am Jewish and absolutely do NOT share the religious views of Corrie Ten Boom. But, this story is so engrossing and moving that my religious views were irrelevant. This is the remarkable story of a remarkable family that literally laid their lives out to save Jews in Holland during WWII. These are people I wish I could hug. Don't be put off by the religious views expressed. Those views caused heroic people to show mercy and empathy in the most brutal period in recent history. The views were not preachy. I only wish that I could do something good for any person that would give respect for the wonderful people in this story.

Nothing in the description informs the reader that this is an abridged version. Many key parts have been cut and section edited and changed so that they read dramatically differently. I ended having to re-buy the other version (the 35th anniversary one) so I could have the entire book.

I have read this book probably 6 times over the course of my life. You think I’d be tired of it by now. Not only do I love reading it and getting something new from it each time, I make sure I have a copy on hand to give out to others. Yes, it is that good. It is a true story of a tragic time in the history of mankind. It details the love, warmth and courage of a family of three; an elderly father and his two spinster daughters who risk everything to save their Jewish neighbors and strangers alike from the Nazi death camps. Read this book! You will not regret it!

I sit here at a loss for words because I know that nothing I can say will begin to display the emotions and thoughts swirling around in my mind. Ms. Boom's story touched a piece of me so deeply, I'm afraid that I will never be the same now. Please, I promise you, you will not be the same after. You will laugh with Corrie, cry with Corrie, cry out with Corrie in the pain she had to endure, but most importantly God will touch your heart with the miracles He provided her with through all of this. Just take a chance, go back into history a little ways with Ms. Boom, you won't be disappointed.

Whether you are Jew, Christian, Catholic or pagan, this book of history is enlightening for your journey. There are spiritual mentions that shouldn't keep you from reading this book. Just as you would sit respectfully in front of an aunt at a Holiday feast listening politely to a tale, so shall you listen to this one in all its entirety. Every story should be heard. Tin Boom's story holds your attention from concert to cover, bringing you along as if you feel sorrow and joy along side. Encourage others to read it like I was encouraged to read it. Pass history on so that love is spread no matter what religion you are.

It's taken me 6 decades to finally get around to reading Corrie ten Boom's remarkable story. I'm in awe at Corrie's honesty in her weakness, but more in the faith in both Corrie and her sister,Betsy, that sustained them through atrocities I can only imagine....A faith that even enabled them to find joy in fleas! Reading this story has certainly put my own difficulties into perspective and has inspired me to look so much more closely at my own faith. I am truly grateful that I have been so blessed, but I know now that I have to trust God more in every aspect of my life. Thank you, Corrie ten Boom, for sharing your story and for sharing the love of God with a very dark world.

Riveting true story of occupied Holland during WWII. Could not put down, though I knew the unspeakable would occur. A good reminder for today of how fascism starts: First the "state" controls the media and commerce, then bullying comes, with rationing, brutality, curfews, disappearances, genocide. But the hatred, oppression and unspeakable crimes against humanity did not stop the love and good works of this extremely talented, intelligent and faithful family. Their love, their story, and the Resistance, has survived. With many family photos that remind one of one's own relatives only a generation or so ago, and make the story unquestionably come to life. An excellent, excellent read for lovers or history, mystery, or human drama.

For several years, my wife kept trying to convince me to read The Hiding Place. But I thought it sounded like a little child's book. So I kept putting it off. Boy, was I wrong! What an awesome story. I'd give it more than two thumbs up, but I only have 2 thumbs! Well worth taking the time to read, ponder, and absorb how an unseen power guides our lives far more than we realize. This is about the best guide I've found so far. So often the guidebooks are full of clever phrases and outdated information. This author knows and loves the Faroes and provides truly useful information in a respectful, but not overcooked manner. Since it was the only print guide we could find on the Faroes, I didn't expect much of it. But having used multiple guides about other destinations, I'd have to say this was the most useful I've found. I only wish the author had mentioned that there are no public laundry facilities in the Faroes right now! Nevertheless, I may now be a fan of Bradt guides. I hope others are equal to this.

Great book! I'm going to the Faroes in August and there really isn't a whole lot of information out there other than internet resources- this simplified everything and was a great read!

I went to the Faroes, my fourth trip. Never had this excellent book, wish I had. I cannot too strongly recommend that if you plan of going there, you really should have this book. It will make everything you want to do much easier. Also go to the Faroe Islands site and get their map, book of hikes and book of things to visit. All those and the book and you are ready.

This seems to be a very thorough travel guide, well researched and well written. I am looking forward to putting it to use.

If you are traveling to the Faroe Islands, this is THE guide to take with you. Clear descriptions, with plenty of general background, but not too overwhelming on detail. Practical advice and up to date. Particularly useful in the Kindle edition. The Faroes are relatively "undiscovered" - but they are a magical place to visit, and this guidebook will is an ideal companion for those who make it.

A very useful guide. I just spent a week in the Faroes and 2 weeks in Iceland. This gave me a good idea of what I was in for and things to make a point to see. Suduroy was exceptionally welcoming, and taking a helicopter there (instead of the ferry) was an experience I'll not soon forget.

Very cute and colorful. I love how it's hard cover so the book will stay in good condition.

My daughter’s favorite book (she’s 16 months), even now in June I have to read it to her several times a day. Very cute story resembling tortoise and the hare, with a twist.

This is probably one of my son's favorite books now. The illustrations are well done, I like the paper quality, and it's a cute story. My son loves saying all the characters names as he sees them on the pages.

I bought several copies for the grandkids, they love it. They run over to grab this book for me to read, smiling as they hurry back over with anticipation.

Beautiful book. Full of bright colors. My little girl has me read it over and over again.

I purchased this for my class of 7-9 year olds and realized once it arrived that it might be too advanced for most of them. But most activities can be adapted for younger grades. However, I think that the grade recommendation for 4-6 on the cover is correct. It would be too hard for younger kids unless they are advanced, and might be too boring for kids in 7/8th. But it's very thorough!

Fantastic activities for students! I didn't use everything, but there was enough to pick and choose and make it work for ME!

History Pockets have made our homeschool history time much more fun! Both my children (7) and (12) have used various history pockets over the years.

My son LOVES History Pockets. We have paired this with the US Map Skills book by School Specialty Publishing and they go great together. If you have a kid who is hands on and loves crafts, this is the way to learn history.

There are a couple of dud lessons, but on the whole I think the book is a great resource for talking about the age of exploration, and I've very much enjoyed using it with my 5th grade students. Certainly worth the price!

I got history pockets for my 6yr old homeschooler who is currently doing 3rd and 4th grade work and LOVES history. We are working on this now.There are maps and information sheets about each explorer, and some kind of activity such as making a list of things you'd bring on a long journey, or making a model of a compass. I also have my son write about each project on the back, by simply gluing on a piece of lined paper - this makes the activities less busy work and more educational. We also have found "lapbook" elements online to print and add to the pockets, as well as other printables. We also get lots of library books to supplement. So its a good starting point to use.I can see where this would be more of a pain to use in a classroom where many copies of each thing would be needed, but for homeschooling its great! My son's friend's teacher has used the 1-3rd grade literature pockets in her 1st grade classroom before, and said her kids enjoyed them as well.

I love this set and highly recommend it. I just started homeschooling my son. This can encompass Writing, Reading, Art, History, Geography and Science if you follow what we have done. I bought this with the Native american History pockets. I made a poster size pencil drawing of North America. I decided to have my son discover North America with the explorers. We do it in chronological order as each explorer lands on North America we look at the people they came across, the land (climate, flora, and fauna), land marks (Estuaries, Rivers, mountains and deserts), and we make food (Explorers ate hard tack,which is in the Explorers book and Native foods). As each explorer lands on our map he color the state in and labels rivers, lakes and mountains. I supplement with books in the library, state parks, and wild life websites with the science. I have added a few explores that are not mentioned in the book (De Soto, Coronado and Marquet) I also added real leather moccasin, real feather headdress, dream cater, real cross stitch, and making a log cabin from sticks and pebbles. But the books have paper art if you are not as ambitious. I have found that I love the History pockets so much that I bought the Colonial and I am planing to buy the others as they come up in our time line. Hope you enjoy them as much as we have.

The verses are designed to encourage you to trust in God, and are dispersed throughout the book.This journal has 128 pages (but no page numbers!) and features artwork on almost every page.There are no guiding questions, but the inspiring verses to look at as you write in this journal are there to help stimulate your faith in God as you dutifully record your thoughts in this book.This is a hardcover journal, and it uses 200-year paper, which I’m guessing is meant to last for 200 years, and the art in the journal isn’t black and white like it is in most books, but full color. The art is a watercolor style, so it's not so bright that it’s an eyesore, but rather it pleasantly brings color and a soft, feathery feeling into the journal. The book is easy to write in, and the paper is soft so it’s effortless for your pen or pencil to make a nice, satisfying mark.I taped a piece of paper in this journal, and when trying to take it out, I accidentally ripped a small part of one of the layers of the paper off, even though I did it nice and slowly. Otherwise, I don’t have any problems with this journal. It’s beautifully illustrated, wonderfully colored, and just awe-inspiring to look at as you flip through each page, not to mention the awesomely picked Bible verses placed throughout the book. On the front cover, there’s Matthew 19:26. Scattered throughout the book, there are other well-known verses like Jeremiah 29:11 and Philippians 4:13.This is an awesome book, and I thank Fox Chapel Publishing once again for sending us this journal to review.I look forward to seeing more books from you in the future!

I'm really enjoying The Beloved Word Scripture Journal. There are many pages of quoted bible verses to inspire your writing. There isn't just page after page of large illustrations either. Have only made two recipes. Both were delicious! And it has great tips to cut time. My only wish is that the time it takes for Instant Pot to get to pressure would be included in the calculations - it's not, so you need to add some time to allow for the pressure creation. Great cookbook. I find the recipes practical and they've turned out well for us. Really appreciate the cooking charts in back of the book. Also contains many helpful hints and tips. Very good, solid, basic cookbook for Instant Pot cooks. A lot of helpful information and delicious recipes! A "must have" for anyone who's just starting to experiment with pressure cooking! But, this cookbook is not just for beginners. It has plenty of good stuff for the more advanced Instant Pot cooks as well.Every recipe I have tried in this book has worked as advertised and flavorful. Being able to cook something that normally takes hours and turn it into minutes is still pretty amazing to me even after 15 years of professionally cooking. If you own an Instant Pot you need this book.

I liked this cookbook because there are many good recipes here. Interesting ideas for cooking and I do not need to buy a few books. There are also stews, soups and desserts, and much more that I can cook in my instant pot. I only cooked a banana cake from this book. Yummy. I think the rest of the dishes are the same.
