About the Author

Acia Gray has toured extensively as soloist, choreographer and teacher in over 250 cities across the U.S. and abroad and, along with Deirdre Strand, is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Tapestry Dance Company in Austin, TX, one of the few professional, multi-form companies in the country. With TDC, her works have shared the stage with such companies as the New York City Ballet, the Houston Ballet and Doug Varone & Dancers among many others. After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, NYC, Ms. Gray began her professional dance career as a principal dancer and Managing Director of Austin on Tap, one of the busiest touring tap companies in the l980's. As a soloist, she has since shared the stage with such tap greats as Steve Condos, Jimmy Slyde, Lon Chaney, Chuck Green, Sarah Petronio, Brenda Bufalino and Savion Glover among many others. Ms. Gray was chosen as one of 12 dancers worldwide to work with tap legend Charles "Honi" Coles in America's first Creative Residency in the art of tap at the Colorado Dance Festival and again in l990 with Jimmy Slyde. She has appeared in The Great Tap Reunion, Tap/Dowop, Chicago on Tap, the Las Vegas Tribute to Cholly Atkins, Just Friends with Sarah Petronio and the PBS documentary Honi Coles - A Class Act. Ms. Gray is an original steering committee member of the International Tap Association, Artistic Director/Tap of the Dance Arts Institute of America and is currently on faculty for Austin Community College and The TDC Academy. She has also taught for the International Summer School/Cyprus, Dance Masters of America, the Dance Center of Columbia College, the Colorado Dance Festival, Chicago on Tap, the University of Texas, the Texas Association Teachers of Dance and numerous other college, theatre and community dance organizations. In addition to Tapestry works, her choreography has been commissioned by Ballet Austin, St. Louis' Tapsichore, numerous modern dance choreographers and equity productions of She Loves Me, Cabaret, Man of La Mancha and Nunsense! This is a must read for a tap dancer. This book is very easy to follow, but impossible to read without tapping your feet. I have been tap dancing most of my adult life and I wish I read this book earlier. I especially love the wide range of terminology and breakdown of popular combinations.

I had the privilege very recently to meet the tap legend, Acia Gray, upon her returning to teach her first class at the studio she co-founded in 1989 here in Austin, TX. I happened over to Tapestry this summer as a teacher to keep my tap skills "fresh" and found the place not only hospitable but a virtual tap dancer's paradise, with people genuinely enthralled by the art of tap. I am so glad I got to experience Acia's unique and passionate style of teaching at her triumphant return after battling a lengthy illness. She suggested the book. I ordered it the same day. I enjoyed it from cover to cover. She couples technique and terms with stories and history. I loved it! I found in her a present day passion for tap that I have only seen in the man studied with as one of his last private students--Louis da Pron. She knew of him, of course. She knows EVERYONE who has ever tapped, it seems and has danced with most of them. I recommend this book to anyone who loves tap dancing. It is a great reference book. As someone who "gave up dancing" 30 years ago and has now returned, I found myself nodding "yes" to everything she had to say. She and this book are a treasure to me. Grateful to have found it and her and be tapping in earnest again!

Content hard to follow.

This book is a must for beginners. Ms. Gray's definitions make sense. The concepts if taught from the beginning, carry the dancer easily into the advanced levels. Those who do not like the book are struggling with their own closed minds not any shortcomings on Ms. Gray's part. If we all had learned tap with these unique concepts so many bad habits would not have to be "re-learned." I have taught tap for 19 years and all my students have adapted the curriculum provided in "The Souls of Your Feet." The historical descriptions and resource information have proven invaluable as well.2013 - Just required my dancers to buy for summer study. This book continues to inspire. Thanks Acia for sharing your love of tap.

This book takes the simplest of tap steps and words it so strangely that it takes you 20 minutes to figure out that she's trying to say "flap heel heel brush heel toe heel". The index of terms are listed by number of sounds rather than alphabetically, so as your referring back to the index, which you must do often because her terminology is so different, it can be hard to find what your looking for. I feel certain, if a beginner picked up this book to learn a little more about the art of tap dance, they would most certainly become so frustrated, they'd probably decide to forget about tapping all together. I did, however, require my students to read this book for their college advanced tap class, because I do think that they should be exposed to different teaching styles. After reading it, they were asked to review it. It was definitely the least favorite book of the semester(They were required to read four books). Not one single student gave it a good review.

The second book in this series...did not disappoint. I'm looking forward to books 3 & 4.I love the dynamic between Alexis and the 4-hot shifters is steamy, funny, romantic and all around perfect. Who wouldn't want to be mated to those 4!

I loved the first two book. I can't wait for the next two. To bad there is only two more i wish there would be more..

OMG this book is so intense!!!... so much action, unexpected turns, Alexis struggles harder than ever to control her shifting / wolf, she is so powerful!!!... we still need to know why she is so special, that is going to be epic... the mate bond is finale set and, even though it happens really fast, I thing is great the physical part is taking time to happen, since they really don't know each other that well, there is a lot Alexis doesn't know about her guys and vice versa... love that Carl and Molly got over their initial shock and now they are helping them to rescue Sariah, hope they will be present in the next books... page turner, hard to put down, this book will make you want more of our pack story!!! <3

I received an advanced copy and was excited to see what happened next! I enjoyed seeing more about Alexis and her wolf, which is where the first book lead. I also enjoyed seeing the guys. I do feel like this book is that second book that's more a transition than actual story, yes there's plenty going on, and we do get some answers (some rather surprising actually!) but I didn't feel like I learned much about the guys or really see any character development.I also felt that it's a bit rushed to 'fall in love' with someone, much less four guys in only a few months, but then again, I'm also guilty of enjoying stories like this at times. It really depends on the story and depth, and I hope for more focus on the guys as the series goes on! I really want to know more, and as MCs I feel that would be important to the story as it continues (right? XD)Still, I did enjoy this one, and we do get some more info about the way the first book ends, so things happen, there just wasn't as much focus on the Heroine and her guys as I'd hoped, but still we do get some exciting scenes, so I can see many PNR/RH readers enjoying this! (I'm just a little pickier about getting to know the characters I guess, though even I'm looking forward to more of this series!

If you love the Supernatural you will love this read. Alexis's finds herself in a situation that brings her wolf out. But can she control the wolf herself, can her guys control her wolf. Can they find Strand the person responsible for alot of stuff. This is a great addition to this series. The book starts out with a major attention grabber, its a definite must read.Shauna Joesten

Wolf Called is the second book in this series, and you must read book one, Wolf Hunted, first. This book picks up almost immediately from where the first ended, which I’m happy about. The book is a fast-paced, quick read that I flew through. This is a shifter reverse harem series, and as such you expect the topic of “mates” to arise. It does in this book and I was surprised by the quickness/mechanism of the bond itself, but pleased that there is a backstory for one of the heroes that adds some interesting depth. I never really felt the emotional connection between Alexis and her harem; it came too fast for my tastes, and that hasn’t changed, but I do enjoy their protectiveness and that the physical aspect of their relationships is evolving at a slower rate. As ever, I remain very enthused over the quality of this author’s writing and love her voice/style. The ending isn’t really a cliffhanger to my mind, but does set up what challenges they are going to be facing in book three.3.5 ⭐️

i've photographed landscapes and people, on terra firma, for ages but now i wish to do it underwater when i go snorkeling or scuba diving in cozumel and this beginner's guide is excellent. taking pix underwater is totally another realm with its own set of variables that will affect taking a decent pix (light; water clarity; current; moving objects, etc) and this book explains what one will encounter when doing so. it's a quick read but definitely worth a second read, and/or review, before venturing out into the water...

Have you ever read a book for beginners only to find you didn't understand it at all? Thanks to Larry Gates for getting us into underwater photography in a way we can all grasp. He really starts at the beginning and makes it possible for us all to "get it." And the really nice thing about this book is that he shows us how to take excellent pictures without having to buy the most expensive, technical, and hard to use equipment. If you are ready to get started and you don't want to cream your budget this book is for you!

The book is very information and detailed enough for the beginner. It allows the novice underwater photographer to understand the basics of U/W photography and stresses the fact that it's not the camera that matters but the techniques and composition of the photo that matters. Great pictures and illustrations to boot.

I met Larry when I got my OW certification in Key Largo two years ago....I called him up to ask about housings and strobes and to get some ideas, when he told me he "had just published a book" I was ecstatic!! I knew I had to order the book right that second. I just got the book today and I sat down and read it cover to cover!!! The book is absolutely fabulous, it give the right insight without being too hard core or boring and it touches on all the topics that are essential for taking good underwater pics. For any photographer that is serious about taking pictures on land this book will be the perfect transition into taking the best pictures underwater. On the other hand if you are the diver that "just wants amazing pictures to show friends" this is absolutely the way to go. I cannot imagine a better guide to underwater pic nirvana!

I actually took an underwater photo class with Larry in Key Largo, Fl. a few years ago and was thrilled to see that he wrote this book. It brought back memories of the laid back, easy to understand approach that he uses to teach. The book is laid out so a "regular guy" can read and actually understand what you need to know to take great pictures underwater. Larry also gives great tips on what to do before, what to expect on the dive boat, and what to do after your dives that you won't get from other books. If you are just starting out with underwater photography or need a book that you can understand without being a professional photographer, this is the book for you!

We had gotten an underwater camera for our grandsons along with this book. They found the book to be both helpful and interesting and a good primer for their first trip 'deep down.'

I have read many books on digital photography but few on underwater photography. This book is very well written, full of practical advise on all aspects of underwater digital photography. It's an easy read and very informative. This is the book PADI should endorse rather than their very brief instructional book. It's focused more on the practical aspects than photo-editing and so would likley be a good accompaniment to a book balanced toward post-processing.

I would recommend this book both to understand about equipment and know how related with underwater photography.. It's very clear

I can't fully express in words what this books means to me. I put off reading it for years. Mr. Mandela was released from prison in my college years and so I knew who he was, and what he accomplished on a very surface level. I always knew I wanted to know his life';s story on a deeper level.The writing is forceful, and beautiful and honest. I received inspiration, education and amazement from reading this book.Again, I can't truly do this autobiography justice in a review. If you have EVER had any inclination or interest in reading this? Trust me! It is better than you thought it could be.Let me end by saying that the best way I can describe this book is that after reading it, it made me determined to be a better person!

I am a white South Aftican who grew up in the apartheid era of South Africa. As with most of the white peers of my age I didn't know what apartheid really meant. I had also never heard the name Mandela until I went to university in 1980. A student came up to me carrying a petition in his hand and asked me to sign it. It was to free Nelson Mandela. This student told me a little about the history behind Mandela's imprisonment. I was young, obviously impressionable, but most of all I was outraged! I signed the petition and went home. When my relatively liberal parents heard what I had done they were very upset, and worried, as at that time any type of support for the ANC, and of course Mandela, was illegal. Growing up in the 60's in a country which was rife with the propoganda that the government wanted us to hear, and believe,I didn't know much about how the majority of my country lived, nor how badly they were treated.Many years later, when I worked in the medical field, I was very privileged to get the opportunity to personally meet the president. I took my hardcover edition of "The Long Walk to Freedom" with me and asked him to autograph it, which he did with extreme grace. Years later I read the very same book from cover to cover which he had signed. The book is long, and at that stage in my life I couldn't take it all in. Now that Mandela has passed I decided to get the kindle version, as I didn't want to risk ruining my precious signed edition. The second time around I am enjoying it even more. His voice rings in my ears as I read his words, and I can see him clearly in front of me. What an incredible man he was. The way in which he comes across in his book is the exact person that I met in 1994. I think that anyone who has heard the name Mandela, whether they are South African or not, and who feels they want to know this exceptional man a little better and know what true humility is should definitely read this book.

Mandela is quite literally The Man. This book describes in as much detail as possible for a single book all of the trials and tribulations that Nelson Mandela endured personally and publicly. It shows that he is a human who makes mistakes; he is no different from the rest of us. It describes his enthusiasm and motivation in doing what is right for his people, his home, his community, his country. It details how much Mandela personally endured for a cause greater than himself, for his people, for justice. His peaceful and intellectual approach to all matters (after the learnings of his wild and sometimes aggressive youth) is what allowed him to calmly discuss differences, appeal to others, teach himself law and represent himself in court, aid in the overturn of apartheid, have hope in a future for himself and those who had been victimized in South Africa, survive unjust prison confinement, motivate others when times were bleak, and become president of South Africa.

It was very fascinating to read about the life of a great personality. He was born in a small village in rural South Africa, his father passed away when he was a small child,and he was brought up by his uncle-who was a tribal chief. As a child he went to the best schools a black man could go to. He valued educations, but mentions how society and the education system were wrought with white supremacy.He runs away from home along with his cousin to avoid getting married to someone he didn't like, he carries a gun along with him and is apprehended by the police but manages to convince them to release him. In the city he takes up small jobs to make ends meet and pursues his law studies through correspondence. While working as a clerk in a law firm he is introduced to the ideals and principles of the ANC-African National Congress. He gets increasingly involved with the ANC and becomes an important member of it.He writes how oppressive apartheid was-black people lived in ghettos and needed passes to commute any where. But he also mentions his own mistakes- how he used to get carried away when he used to give speeches and argue cases.In the freedom struggle when they try everything and nothing works against the white government they decide to start a militant organisation. Mandela acknowledges that he was part of the decision making process;he expresses surprise when he is conferred the Nobel Prize because he had started a militant organisation. He goes on a world tour collecting funds. He comes back and is in hiding when he is caught by the police.He is sentenced to life imprisonment.In the prison also there is discrimination between indian prisoners and black prisoners. In jail he is offered shorts to wear-because blacks were considered boys-but refuses to wear them, so the prison guards give him a choice to wear shorts or undergo solitary confinement for a few days. He chooses solitary confinement but after a few days he pleads with the security guards to let him out. It is fascinating how even in prison there are liberal jailers too. He develops an interest in gardening and pursues his education from prison.He mentions how while he was severely tested he too questioned his own choice of joining the freedom struggle.There are certain thinks in his life you can relate to-like the mistakes he has made or the challenges he has faced-and can take solace and confidence from the fact that everybody faces them in life. But there are qualities in him-like the fact that he had the confidence to disagrees with Gandhi regarding the form of freedom struggle and choose to start a militant organisation, even when he hadn't been acknowledged as a great leader and could have been branded a terrorist; having the will power to believe in a cause for so long; having the courage to be honest about his life-which I can't relate to. I think this is what makes him great in my eyes and he is an inspiration to me.

This is a two book set of volume I and II of Bandhu Scott Dunham's series on Contemporary Lampworking. Taken together these two books and the following book, Volume III make up a series which is the lampworking equivalent to Oppi Untracht's "Jewelry: Concepts And Technology", i.e. a definitive survey on the subject. I think a good first book for people just learning recreational lampworking is Cindy Jenkins' "Making Glass Beads", which may give the novice a bit more of the romance of it in a more enthusiastic manner. These books should definitely be the next two on the reading list for the serious lampworking student.Dunham presents a series of topics which show the reader the basics of how to do lampworking, starting with very simple ways to heat glass, add colored stringers and progressing right on up to very complex ways of making complex objects, such as laboratory glassware and large sculptures. Book I is the basics and book II is not just a step up toward more advanced techniques, but a step describing advanced tooling. Initially I wished for more information about specifics of tools themselves, but then I realized that lampworking is not a thing which is bound by any specific technology, but rather by skill of the worker and the properties and chemistry of the glass.For me, one single technique, the proper winding of a steel wool vessel core, paid for the books. Perhaps for another reader it would be the hint to use a borosilicate punty when making Effetre marbles or the proper way to place a dot or any one of the thousands of other simple things we learned wrong when we start out with lampworking.The language is fairly simple if you've done basic lampworking and read previous lampworking books and have a basic knowledge of both art glass and lab glassware. One word should do for an example. It is found in a technique which tells about the use of a "rubber policeman" to temporarily stop up a hole at the cold end of a piece of glassware. Anyone who has worked in labs knows what are rubber policemen, but people who come to lampworking from the world of video games and t.v. shows probably should keep in mind that their browser can link to dictionaries.Some of the reviewers seem to be put off by the black and white photos. I don't believe I would have told that, since it betrays a certain level of inexperience on the subject. Lampworking has two photographic facts of life. Number one is that color photography is not adequate to capture the color spectrum of hot glass. Number two is that hot glass in a flame produces a flare or false color reaction which makes unfiltered color photographs a mess of yellow and throws off the color of filtered ones.Other readers seem put off by the fact that a lot of the techniques are more directly applicable to borosilicate than to COE 104. I'm not at the level where I can actually do boro with any confidence but I've achieved a level where I can see that the distinction is a false one. The techniques build on one another. If you can keep Effetre cooler but warm enough to work on just a spot without cracking the rest it makes you a better borosilicate worker and if you can work on the stiffer borosilicate it helps you cut down overheating your Effetre. Et cetera.A minor irritant is that these books are spiral bound, which would make these books difficult for a precocious young reader to handle. However any adult who has sufficient manual dexterity for basic lampworking should be able to read them without tearing pages.

I found this book to be fantastic. Despite my only working in soft glass, I love that it talks about Boro as well. I had an instructor tell me it didn't apply to soft glass work and I shouldn't buy it... I am so glad I make decisions for myself! The history told is very informative, the tips and tricks throughout the book make it worth every penny. I was most interested in learning the chemistry behind the glass because once you understand that, so many other things come into place. Even on the descriptions that don't direct relate to what I do, I learned something. I love the author's sense of humor- it makes the book an easy and delightful read. So many books are simply "how-to's" these days and don't explain the "whys". Thank you for writing this book and explaining the "whys" in a way everyone can understand! I have now purchased volumes 2 and 3 and am excited to read them. A must have for any lampworker's library.

I bought this for a friend, who absolutely loves it. He's a hobbyist glass worker, and had heard great things about this work. This is only Volume I (Commonly sold as a package of Vol 1 and 2, with a 3rd edition now available) so it's a great alternative if you don't have the full 70 bucks to spend on both editions. My friend loves the book and on the first day of opening the book, he promised he'd learned several things.As for the seller, they were quick, (book arrived two weeks before "estimated delivery date") and the book was in good condition, so I recommend the seller, too.

These books are the basis to everything you will need to know. Well worth the investment. Great photos and size of book.

Some reviewers have complained that the photos are in Black and White - I don't think that detracts from the greatness of the book at all. This is a great step by step course on lampworking. I have learned a great deal - the descriptions are detailed, well illustrated, and the techniques work. I look forward to buying volume 3.

This is one of the best written and comprehensive books on lampworking that I've read. I've been familiar with Dunham's work and have followed him on Facebook but I didn't know he had a book. My loss. Read the 2-volume set cover to cover immediately and learned lots. This should be in every lampworker's library.

You will learn more than you expect. Definitely worth getting if your a beginner and I also believe that just about anyone would learn something no matter what your level of experience:)
