Hedi Kyle has been described as a book structure magician. She recently retired as Head Conservator at the American Philosophical Society, and was Adjunct Professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her one-of-a-kind constructions have been exhibited internationally.Ulla Warchol graduated from The Cooper Union in New York City with a degree in architecture. After working in the field in the 1990s, Ulla has spent the last two decades developing a multidisciplinary approach to structure. She leans toward a broad exploration of materials and techniques in both large-scale and small-scale works.

I was so pleased with this book. It looks much more expensive than it is. Beautiful photography, informative and easy-to-follow illustrations, and outstanding techniques. The layout is very nice as well. As for the content - I am so excited! I am reading everything in the hopes of trying it all out afterward. You won't be disappointed!
A treasure for anyone serious about bookcraft and perfect for the beginner. The text is clear, concise, and accurately supported with drawings and images. A steal at $19.45 for the information offered, though the quality of the paper reflects the price point. I’ll take solid information over slick and glossy.Note: I was disappointed that the cover flyleaf of my copy arrived somewhat mangled when upon further examination I suspect that it was intentionally folded that way i.e. The Art of the Fold. Having made something near 100 handmade books including several of the examples in this book, I am neither master or novice, though I did pick up numerous tips and process nuances on my very first read. You will enjoy this.
What a beautiful, well-thought-out, wonderful book! Hedi Kyle and her daughter have created a masterpiece of clarity and delight with their book The Art of the Fold. I spent an absorbing weekend doing as many of the projects as I could. The directions are clear. The drawings are fantastic. The examples, beautiful. I have seen other people's directions for several of the projects in this book, like the Blizzard Book and the Flag Book. Hedi's are so much clearer and easier to follow. The difference is dramatic. I'm so excited to own this book!It's also a physically gorgeous book. The book band feels good. The cover feels good. The paper weight is gorgeous. The colors are wonderful. It felt like eating a delicious chocolate bar the whole time I was using it. Yum yum!
Even though I may only make one of the books in here, I keep opening the book and looking at them all. This is an idea treasure trove
a nice addition to my collection of books about making books. aptly titled 'innovative'. i rarely purchase new books (much prefer used) but had to jump on this after seeing it in a bookmaking workshop. so happy i did! brilliant folding technique that transforms a just a few pieces of paper into multi-paged booklets. i found the instructions and graphics clear and easy to follow. a good foundation for branching out with my own ideas. very highly recommended!
